We spend more time looking at each others’ faces than any other area of the body. Our sense of self is also greatly influenced by what we see in the mirror every morning. In the face, more than anywhere else, beauty and harmony is a matter of millimeters and small changes can have a big impact on the overall appearance.
Aesthetic plastic surgery of the face may either aim to alter the appearance or to rejuvenate it. Alterations of appearance can be achieved by surgical changes to the bones of the face, the soft tissues (skin, muscle and fat) or both.
Facial aging involves loss of thickness and elasticity of the skin, stretching of the muscular and fibrous support structures of the soft tissues and loss of volume of fat, muscle and bone. Rejuvenation of the face aims to correct those problems which develop or are worsened by the passage of time and the effects of sun and gravity. These include a double chin, facial wrinkling, sagging of the eyelids and so forth.
Natural corrections depend upon analyzing whether the major problems are with skin condition, loss of support or loss of volume. I develop a customized treatment plan, based on this analysis. Procedures may include face lift, brow lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck), fat grafting or other volumizers, and light based treatments such as fractional laser or intense pulsed light.
