Sculpting the Soft Tissues of the FaceThe most common "sculpting" procedures are removal of excessive fat from the cheeks or chin area. Large fat deposits here can hide the natural line of the cheekbone and appear unattractive. Fat can be removed either by making a small incision in the mouth and removing part or all of the main fat pad in the mid-cheek or by making tiny incisions in the hairline (behind the ear) or under the chin and using a fine tube to suck out the fat (liposuction). Who is it for?If you have plump or chubby cheeks, or have a double chin in your twenties or thirties, simple fat removal may be the best solution for your problem. Remember that a certain amount of fat in the cheeks is both natural and pleasing. Removal of too much fat prematurely ages the face. What to expect. These procedures are usually done as outpatient (day surgery) procedures. They can be performed under either local or general anesthesia. You can expect quite a bit of swelling and bruising of the face which will disappear over two to three weeks after surgery. A gentle pressure dressing will speed this process. If appearance is not a consideration, three or four days off work is often sufficient.
